Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Kathleen & David, Hampshire

My Cytronex kit allows me to continue riding my bike wherever I like despite being in my late 70's. My husband, in his 80's, loves riding regularly in the South Downs with his Cytronex kit. We have now bought a third battery to share when we climb our favourite routes in Mountainous Spain. I previously had a proper electric bike but found it too heavy and unwealdy.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Dr. B, London

First-class product and service I took the leap to buy a C1 kit encouraged by the excellent reviews Cytronex has gathered over years. I’m very happy to write a glowing review myself now, which might help someone else weighing up their decision. This is a big investment to most people, after all, and you want to know you’re getting it right. I bought a self-install C1 kit, having visited the Winchester showroom to double-check it could be fitted to my commuter bike, and to take a test ride of one of their stock bikes. The instructions were very clear to follow. I took my time—I like to have things neat—but nothing was particularly difficult (and my bike mechanic skills are not advanced). The trickiest thing was changing the tyre over to the new wheel, really. The gear sensor took some trial and error over 10 minutes to set it just so, but that wasn’t very difficult, and having set it, it hasn’t budged. I’ve used the kit on my daily commute (10km each way) for a couple of weeks. It’s fun. It does everything you think it should do, in the most natural way possible. The best analogy I can come up with is that it’s like a travelator at an airport: only when you step off the moving walkway do you realize how much you were moved along your way without thinking about it. For me, commuting across town, the two big wins are: (1) pulling away from stops that bit more promptly—which (a) feels safer and (b) reduces repeat pressure on my middle-aged knees—and then (2) gliding up hills like never before, thirty years younger or not (I just don’t like cycling up hills). There’s nothing to learn after the first few rides. The mechanics have all been refined by the designer to make the kit practically invisible in everyday use, and that’s exactly what you want. My contact with the company has also been handled very well: team members have been interested, responsive, knowledgeable. We had one snag with delivery to sort out, and that was taken up immediately and effectively. It’s only when something goes a bit awry that you can see whether the other person can recover and carry on—they managed all of that in a very human and professional way. So that’s my 10/10 review. I fully expect to be quietly chuckling to myself as I go about my commute for years to come, with luck. It’s a considerable small pleasure, and the company fully deserve their success. On the photos, you'll see a lot of cables on my front bars—but only one of those is for the Cytronex button; the other four are the cables for my brakes and gear shifts.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Sarah, Winchester

Great product, adapted to my own bike too which was the best. Fantastic to be able to cycle to work up some seriously big hills. Lightweight, UK made and the reassurance of repairs locally. Thanks to Jake for his knowledge, patience and instructions too.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Mark, Oxfordshire

I fitted my kit this week having picked it up from the shop in Winchester. I researched the market quite thoroughly and this one seemed to tick the boxes for ease of use and installation and for keeping added weight to a minimum. So far it has delivered on the boxes and I'm delighted with it. Just be aware that these devices are popular and therefore there is a significant lead time between ordering and delivery. All said, a thoroughly caring and professional outfit.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Janet, United States

I love my Cytronex equipped bicycle. The Cytronex team was great to deal with and the product is terrific. I simply equipped my road bike with a Cytronex kit and had it installed at my local bike shop. It weighs only about 5 pounds more than without the kit, I can put it on a regular bike rack to transport it, and it provides great support when I’m biking up hill. I rarely use more than the 2 lowest speeds. What a terrific product

Cytronex Brompton Review: John, Weymouth

I’ve ridden my Brompton M6L for years and decided to look at the Brompton Electric. I was very disappointed with its design and performance. Battery pack flapping about over any bump, leaning over the handlebars to change the assist level and the loss of the front luggage block. Then I arranged a test ride on a Brompton at Cytronex in Winchester. What a difference! After two minutes I knew it was brilliant. Silent motor, smooth power uptake and a choice of 5 power settings on the boost button. AND it didn’t have a battery which looked like a metal pallet bolted on to the frame like so many e-bikes! I ordered one and had it fitted by Jake in their shop. It has completely changed my riding. As a “more mature” rider, it’s increased my range dramatically and where before I would avoid routes with steep hills - nothing is an obstacle. There was a slight problem with the initial set-up but Jake fixed it at no charge (after-sales service is excellent.) So what are the downsides -NONE. Best investment I have ever made and “No” I’m not being sponsored by Cytronex. I am convinced this piece of kit will in future be referred to as “a design classic.”

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Mike, West Midlands

To be honest, I wouldn't normally consider a kit such as the Cytronex C1, preferring to buy a fully integrated e-bike. But with supply problems of these at the start of 2020, I decided to go ahead. Cytronex exceeded my expectations, being really helpful in discussing the options I wanted and supplying a well engineered and thought out kit to attach to one of my existing bikes. Everything fitted first time and worked perfectly. Being able to customise the power levels using the App. is a great feature. I tend to use the assistance to get me over the hills and through the headwinds and normally only use the low setting which I have at 20%. With this I have found my rides so much more enjoyable and I ride further. Using it this way the battery lasts well. eg. after a 50m hilly ride, I had over 50% left. One of my fears was having to disassemble the front wheel to fix a puncture on the road. But having fitted the kit myself and being familiar with it, even this was straightforward. (I did remember my 17mm spanner!). This is really great product and excellent value for money. Recommended.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Gordon, Northamptonshire

The Cytronex system has given our cycling an incredible boost. We are in our mid 60s and enjoy our Cannondale and Scott hybrid bikes but struggle on any routes that have steep inclines or long hills. We purchased the kit (new front wheel with hub motor, cabling, battery and a sensor for the rear wheel ) and fitted it myself taking about 2 hours for each bike. Our bikes importantly feel the same and we have a choice of 5 power settings depending on the incline to assist our pedal strength. The key thing is that we can choose how hard we pedal and what power assist we need depending on inclines, turning off the power when roads flatten out.The result is that we can go on longer and more energetic routes, expanding our cycling horizons. We are delighted with our Cytronex conversions.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Oliver, Harrogate

I just wanted to let you know that the Cytronex kit that you provided for my triple tandem is excellent! I use it all around town taking the children to their after school clubs on the back. We like to ride on full power for these hops around the Harrogate area and people enjoy seeing us go by, invariably as they sit in traffic jams on the main roads around here. One Mum even said I’d got across town from tennis to the cafe quicker that she had in her car, I didn’t even know she was doing her same journey of a three miles at the same time as us. The system is really controlled and and never creates any unexpected surprises. The kit will definitely be going onto a double tandem once the kids out grow the triple but that won’t be for a few years yet. Cytronex fitted onto triple tandem

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Roger, Buckinghamshire

Today my wife and I, both well into our 70's, joined the 21st century! We had our first ride out on our electric assisted bikes courtesy of Cytronex technology. Just brilliant! While I used it as a test ride needing the physical exercise it was of enormous benefit for my wife who was testing her 'bionic' knees with her first ride for two years! Many thank to everyone at Cytronex for a brilliant product and your customer support

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Robert, Yorkshire

I'm in my mid seventies, and I now find cycling a pleasure again, using the Cytronex system to assist me when required. The boost is available whenever the speed drops below about 15 mph to help in strong headwinds or uphill gradients when it's most needed, and it all happens automatically. You can, of course, use the bike without motor assistance whenever you want just by pressing the Boost button again. This is a simple and brilliant idea, but you'd have to try it to appreciate how really great the Cytronex system is.

It can be fitted to your favourite bike and only adds about 3.5 kgs of extra weight, but if you don't have a favourite bike, you can choose from a good selection of bikes from the Cytronex range of Cannondale and others, and they will supply it ready fitted with their excellent system. The hub motor is very quiet and unobtrusive, and the battery just looks like a large drinks bottle mounted on the bike frame so it doesn't even look like a conventional electric bike. Another great plus for this system is provided by the guys at Cytronex. If you have any problems or issues, no matter how serious or trivial, you can be assured that they care and will do whatever can be done to keep you biking and happy, and they do it quickly. To summarise, this is an excellent system, based on a great idea and supplied by an outstanding company. Join the club of Cytronex enthusiasts, and you will not regret it.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Jerry, Kentucky

I have been a serious cyclist for over 30 years, riding 2,000-3,000 miles per year. Now that I am 75 years old, I don't have enough leg strength to keep up with my fellow riders. Since I converted my bike to the Cytronex motor and battery, I am able to ride where and when I want. Consequently I just ordered a conversion kit for my second bike. Ya gotta love CYTRONEX!!!!!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Tim, Suffolk

“My wife had bought a posh electric bike and I was having trouble keeping up with her. I had a dilemma because  I didn’t want to give up my lovely Genesis Croix de Fer. I tried the Cytronex system at the bike show in Birmingham  and it was a revelation. Here I could have the best of both worlds.  I could keep my Genesis and keep up with my wife! [It’s much cheaper than a quality electric bike] . And this kit is really high quality fitted by a highly professional outfit, and does not noticeably add weight or affect handling. I use it as much or as little as I want. In my view, it’s head and shoulders above the competition. This is the best investment I have made in my cycling, next to the purchase of the original bike, I have ever made and has completely transformed my riding experience. Highly recommended.”

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Carl, Winchester

I have had the C1 kit fitted to two bicycles historically, both hybrids with hub gears. The C1 kit is brilliant in terms of weight to power - i.e. the weight it adds is minimal but provides efficient power and distance on a charge. Staff are great and quick to assist on resolving any issues. Shout out to Jake who is always very helpful and responsive. Highly recommended as a solution to give you a flexible bicycle - so you can use bicycle as normal or with battery on, as opposed to prebuilt E Bike that is much heavier and does not have same flexibility. Have done thousands of miles in various countries on my C1 fitted bicycles.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Simon, London

I’m a recent buyer of your Cytronex kit and would have to say it’s one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I cycle every day now, weather permitting, and have noticed a noticeable improvement in my fitness coupled with a massive recovery in my enjoyment of cycling and being outdoors. Well done, your system is the proverbial “game-changer” for me.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Frank, Devon, Drop bar Bike

I have been so impressed with every aspect of this kit. The on-line instructions & templates for measuring the bike were very clear and it took less than a couple of hours to fit.   I installed the kit on my road bike to help with the Devon hills, which used to present a bit of a challenge to my 67 year old knees, but no longer. Since it hardly changes the weight or handling of the bike I very often leave it switched off, using it only if I begin to struggle on a hill or if I need a bit of a boost in traffic. I have therefore become much fitter and regularly do 20-30 mile rides.   I rarely see the red (almost discharged) battery indicator coming on, even when on a cycling holiday in hilly Northumberland, so a 30 mile range, with care, is easily achievable. The optional lights, powered by the system are excellent, Cytronex have extremely good customer service and I would have no hesitation in recommending the entire setup.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Phil, Worcestershire, Drop bar Road Bike

Great system. Adding the converter kit to her road bike (which I did quite easily) has made the difference between my wife never riding again and riding over 2000 miles this year. Has worked wonders for her confidence and enjoyment because she no longer has to worry about getting up hills or completing the rides. Thank you.

The installation instructions were great and sufficiently detailed, got it installed last Saturday. Had my first ride on the streets yesterday, some 20 km. Really fun and easy to use! Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Robert, Trough of Bowland, Claud Butler

My latest adventure with my C1 Cytronex converted Claud Butler. I use the power only when necessary as the bike rolls so well with power off. You’ll notice I now have a Tiagra groupset which helps also. In fact the bike is getting like Trig’s broom in Only Fools and Horses as the only original bits are the frame, forks and handlebars. I gained the summit still on green and after 30 miles and 2660ft of ascent the indicator was still on purple. I’m as pleased as ever with its performance which gets me so much further than ever though possible! https://youtu.be/ZzwUxXX48Cc

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: David, Cumbria, Hybrid Bike

I'm 73 years old, had given up on being able to manage decent ride distances from home in our spectacularly scenic but very hilly, I should say "felly", Lake District. The C1 kit, easily and unobtrusively applied on my favorite bike, has given me back a decent range and taken away all fear of long steep inclines. This is a really excellent company with a personal, top-notch service and a great product.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Steve, Liverpool, Hybrid Bike

I love this Cytronex C1 kit. It's high quality, well thought out and has more than met my expectations. It was easy to install and the queries I had before purchasing were dealt with by Cytronex and their very friendly and helpful staff in a timely manner. As a direct result I am out on my bike everyday and travelling further and further. The electric assistance comes in smoothly and it still feels like I'm riding my own bike. It's also completely legal in the UK too and made by the guys in the UK.... This was important to me rather than buying a cheap inferior product that seem to be rife on the internet these days. I'm generally doing rides of about 25 miles and feeling fitter as i put as much or as little of my own effort in dependent on my mood. It's superb when it comes to hills, I don't need to put much effort in, perfect. Hills and cycling into a strong head wind I always hated, now I just smile a lot as I can have Cytronex kick in when I most need it.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Roger, Canada, Touring Bike

The Cytronex C1 unit is in my opinion one of the more technically superior units available for retrofitting. It is ideal for those of us who are getting a “little longer in the tooth” and need more help on the hills or against the wind. I will turn 80 later this year and fitting the unit to my Van Nicholas makes me feel I have extended my enjoyment of cycling for years to come (here’s hoping!)

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Hazel, Kent, Hybrid Bike

I have been out cycling every day during lockdown and have had a lovely time, thanks to my motorised assistance. I am getting hip trouble which makes long walks increasingly difficult but I can happily travel 30-40 miles on my bike and have a lovely time. So I wanted to say thank you for making this possible. I hope the business has managed to survive this awful time. It seems that cycling is getting more and more the favoured form of travel, anyway!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Steve, Poole, Mountain Bike

My C1 kit arrived yesterday and I had chance to fit it today. Thank you for your helpful emails and for making the purchase process easy for me. I’ve cycled 12 miles so far and am absolutely thrilled with how the Cytronex C1 kit works, it just feels so natural. Keep up the great work you have done with this, my Boardman will now get used more and more, love it!

quotation mark

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Richard, Bolton, Drop Bar Bike

As a lifelong leisure cyclist, fitting a C1 kit to my Boardman hybrid has been an eye-opener. As my knees have become more sensitive to riding up hills (I live near the West Pennine Moors in Bolton), at the age of 77 this kit has ensured that not only I am able to select the steeper routes but also I can maintain 50+ distances easily. I fitted the kit myself with no problems and can recommend it to others with confidence. When riding up hills, I usually switch on when my speed drops to 8-9 mph and at that stage, to use a Maradona phrase, it is as if "the Hand of God" is there to assist me! I am so pleased with the kit that I have ordered a second one (less battery) to fit to my road bike. Both these bikes should see me into my next next decade I hope.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Ant, Essex, Drop Bar Titanium Bike

I blame Frank. He is 86 and overtakes me up hill when I am cycling with the Forty Plus Club. I’m 73 which is about the average age on our twice weekly runs. Although they don’t mind, I don’t like it when they have to wait for me at the top of a steep hill, and it was happening too often. My mate Big Dave was also suffering up hills and when he went electric that left me as tail end Charlie. I love my bike. I went mad and decided to break the cycle (excuse the pun) of buying yet another N+1 bike and researched the best last bike ever. I bought a Vaaru MPA titanium. It is brilliant but I really didn’t want to buy an electric bike with the danger of mothballing the Vaaru. Retrofit was the answer and after much research, a test ride and frequent silly questions all patiently answered, I bought a C1 kit and James at Vaaru swapped out my forks for drop outs and fitted the C1. Apart from the first two hundred miles with the front fork rubbing on the motor, kindly diagnosed by Cytronex and simply fixed by me, the experience has been pure joy. Hills and headwinds can bow be relished - I never thought I’d say that - and my cycling looks like it will see me through many more years. Big Dave and I now find ourselves at the front. Good, first in the queue for lunch!   You can see Ant's bike here in our gallery.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Gail, Buxton, Drop Bar Bike

Over the last 10 years I've done less cycling. It was a gradual process. Took a break, lost fitness, started making excuses not to go out with friends as I knew I couldn't keep up the way I used to...... time passed & I started to think those days were behind me.

Then my older but very much fitter brother introduced me to Cytronex as his 'secret' to keeping fit. I tried his & was convinced.

I converted my lovely familiar made to measure (20 years ago) road bike. Wow! What a game changer. My bike looked & felt just the same as before, that old familiarly was still there. Without the assistance it feels, rolls & reacts like the same bike. Press the button once (25 percent assistance) & it feels exactly like it did 10 years ago when I was fitter!!!

I now have the confidence to
A) Go out!
B) Go further
C) Ride with friends

My fitness has improved & I find I need to use the assistance less, but when I do there is enough left in the bottle for that final hill back to my home in Buxton even if I need the 75 percent help!

I've just ordered another kit for my touring bike for multi day trips. I'll be fitting it myself as I fitted the last one & found it ok for a 60 odd year old mildly technophobic woman. It was a bit fiddly but the step by step instructions were good.

Looking forward to the future!!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Paul, Tewkesbury, Drop Bar Bike

Up until recently, I used my 2015 Cannondale CAADX Disc Cyclocross twice a week for my 12 mile each-way commute to work – using my car the other times. With a desire to use my bike as much as possible (to become ‘greener’, a little bit fitter, and remove the frustration of traffic jams), I started researching ‘electric conversion kits’ for my bike. I discovered a large number of available kits out there, varying considerably in price and specification. My requirements were that I still wanted to put a fair bit of effort in (for my fitness), desired a kit/system which would not look ‘too out of place’ on my bike, and one which would be simple to install.

Having debated it for a number of months, I took the plunge and opted for one of the more expensive options (but technically superior) – the Cytronex C1 system. Having used the system for the past 2 months, I can say that I am very happy with my choice –my only regret being that I didn’t get it sooner.

It only took 6 days from ordering the system online to it being delivered. The single box contained all the items, with the new front wheel being completely built – including the disk, inner tube, and tyre. The fitting instructions, which are supplied on a USB stick (which also included the bespoke Cytronex App), are easy to follow and includes photos where needed. I found this straight forward and took around 40 minutes to complete. No specialist tools, modifying of fork dropouts, or experience were required.

Never having used an e-bike before, I found the feeling a little bit strange at first – but it did put a smile on my face. The assistance starts smoothly after a second or two of peddling and continues while you peddle until you get to its maximum rated speed. When you get close to the maximum speed (20mph for my US version), it feels as though the assistance tappers off, rather than stopping suddenly, giving a smooth transition. Likewise, when you start to drop below the maximum speed, at the start of an incline for example, the assistance comes back on gradually.

Turning the system on or off, and cycling through the 3 power levels (adjustable using the App) is no problem at all – just a quick press or long press of the button required. The bottle battery LED depicting the amount of charge left in it is simple but effective.

As is the case for any electric assisted/powered bikes, range is always dependant on a number of factors; assistance level set, amount of effort you put in, weight, headwind, inclines/descents. For my commute, if I use the green power level (lowest setting), I can do my 24 mile round trip using just over 50% of the battery. However, if I’m feeling lazy and use the red level (maximum assistance), I only have just below 25% of battery left after one way (12 miles) – therefore needing to recharge the battery at work.

I have used the bike on a few long steep hills and it pulls well, reducing the amount of effort you need to put in. However, you can still peddle hard if you want to, you just end up going faster up the hill.

I have only had only minor issue with the system, on the very first day of use. This was as a result of not fitting the sensor correctly – I had set it too far away from the rear cassette. In the two months since, I have not encountered any other problems.

Overall, it is an extremely well designed kit which it easy to install, provides good smooth assistance, does not look too out of place, minimal (if any at all) noise, with very friendly service. I would highly recommend it.

Minimum weight. My bike weighs 10.8 Kg with the kit fitted and I have achieved 55 miles with powered conservatively.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Tom, Isle of Wight, Hybrid

Excellent ebike kit, exactly what I wanted. It gives me a nice light bike but still plenty of assistance.

It's amazing that even the minimal level of assistance is mostly all I need, even up hills.

So far my range is at least 25 miles, even in pouring rain and wind. I've been surprised that it actually gives me more exercise as I choose to slow down less whilst also being easier on my knees.

The lights I got with it are bright, essential as half of my ride is unlit country lanes. For a light ebike you would normally have to pay a lot more!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Sarah, Alresford, Drop bar conversion

This is the best thing I have purchased in a long time. I decided that I would fit the Cytronex C1 myself. Luckily I live close to Winchester so was able to do a test ride and pick up the C1 package.

I also had a handover from the very helpful Jake. It was very very easy to fit. I can change a tyre but anything technical I usually get someone else to do it, but the instructions are brilliant, very easy to follow.

I haven't been able to cycle much because of family reasons and also I injured my shoulder so pulling when cycling up hill was very painful. I went out for the first time this morning. Wow! the hills were made so much easier, and I only used the lower power level(green) which I set at 18% power. I didn't need to use blue or red levels.

It was great that i was able to fit it to my Specialised Ruby as well instead of buying a heavy and very expensive e-bike. Thanks Cytronex

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Anthea, Midlands, Titanium touring bike conversion

To date I have only reached ‘red’ once. I set out with the intention of flattening the battery. I achieved 80km distance x 550metres of  climbing, carrying some luggage and no attempt to save the battery. With care and no mountains and accepting that one normally comes down after going up, 100k looks possible.

On a recent  short tour,  I generally achieved 20 -25km per quarter of the battery capacity. The battery never went below ‘purple’ on this tour, roughly 50k per day, and not being careful.  We experienced strong head winds and torrential rain and floods.

Since having the conversion, only twice, on climbs, have I have used the all ‘green’ section at 11 km, both with the ‘assistance’ set on blue. On other rides it has achieved 44km and still going in ‘green'.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Jean, Ashstead, Road bike conversion

Wishing you every success with the C1, it is an amazing concept and deserves to thrive.

It has certainly changed our approach to riding and it is so good to be able to do the hilly climbs together (or me leading!).

We did a 26 mile ride in France the other day with 2,600ft of climbing and it was such fun.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Bob, Frimley, Road bike conversion

Oh why oh why did I wait until I was 80 before I bought this superb kit.

I have had it on my 5 year old Roubaix now for exactly a year and have done approximately 3,500 trouble free miles, including a 100 mile sportive and the Semaine Federal in Cognac.

It has transformed my twice weekly club rides. I am no longer concerned about the pace or the distance. If it is a slower group I may not use the motor at all, a faster group in the Surrey Hills is no problem, I might even go ahead and get photos as they arrive at the top.

Needless to say I am not the only rider with an ebike in my clubs now.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: John, Lancashire, Hybrid bike conversion

In 2017 I bought the Cytronex C1 kit to convert my bike. I've used it continuously in the 2 years since.

It's first class. It's reliable in all conditions and hills are no problem: It gets me up the local 1 in 3! The lights are the best I've ever had on a bike.

Overall the unit is good value for money and does everything the seller claims. The service is good too: I've called several times with queries and have always been able to speak to someone actually involved in the company who knew what they were talking about and could put me right.

I can recommend them and their product.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Nick, Winchester, Hybrid bike conversion

About two years into ownership of my Cytronex C1 equipped Cannondale Quick Disk 3 and can't recommend the C1 tech - or the folks at Cytronex' Bridge Street (Chesil Roundabout) bike shop in Winchester - more highly.

The C1 System got me back onto two wheels after serious illness, flattening out Hampshire hills whenever called upon, and never letting me down to date. No hill (so far!) unconquered. Perfect for circuits to Alresford, Stockbridge, King's Somborne, Owslebury etc.

Completed 2019, 51 mile Wantage to Winchester last week in (imho!) v.respectable time of 3hrs 45 mins (av speed nearly 14mph) with c 25% of the battery left at the end, despite my looming 6'5" frame and manly 106kg mass (without XXL bike!). Shop staff always friendly and receptive too (fixing a broken spoke at short notice to allow me to ride last week). Great stuff - go for a test drive and see if it works for you - highly recommended!

After about 15 months I’ve now done over 2,000 miles on my Cytronex C1 equipped bike. It’s working just as well as ever; no sign of any decline in the capacity of the battery, and in all that time the only adjustments I’ve had to make were to tweak the position of the sensor on a couple of occasions after VERY bumpy rides.

What I’d didn’t expect is that as I’ve got fitter and started cycling faster, I’m actually using it more than when I started, in order to keep up my speed up the hills. So until I can get up all my local hills at 15mph+ (ie never) I shall continue to make use of this brilliant e-bike kit.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Joy, Leicestershire, drop bar road bike conversion

I have just done a tour in Northumberland, fully loaded with panniers etc. It was great! I did 4 x 40+ miles and on 3 occasions with over 1100 meters of climbing. I arrived with the red light flashing (10% battery). I was still working hard on green level 10%, and the odd blast of blue 30% or red 80% but I definitely wouldn't have done this tour without the motor!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Roy, Guildford, Trek drop bar road bike conversion

I’ve just returned from cycling trip to France with my Trek Madone ebike with Cytronex conversion. It worked brilliantly!

I was able to keep up with my mates most of the time and the boost, even on minimum setting, was really helpful on hills and headwinds. Most days I managed to use just half of the battery charge in 50 miles or so.

On one day, with very strong winds and climbs I did go down to flashing red by the time I got home, after 55 miles, but I have my fast charger in my larger saddlebag in case.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Andy, Kent, hybrid bike conversion

I was so pleased with the first C1 kit I installed on one of my bikes that I bought another for my second bike. Recently, I bought a third kit for my wife's bike. Easy installation with comprehensive instructions including photos.

No special tools needed just a spanner, allen key and a small philips screwdriver.
Operation is also straightforward and again comprehensive instructions supplied.
This is a light and discreet system and well worth the price if you love your bike and want to make your cycling easier.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Abdul, Malaysia, road bike conversion

Just to let you know that I have successfully installed Cytronex on my bike and done several rides. After many rides, I've adjusted power levels to 50W, 80W and 200W. Last weekend I managed to cover 130km cross border from Malaysia into Thailand. A steep climb up to 20% near the border required 200W of assistance (I think I can probably reduce this), and with sparing use, power lasted up to 120km. The return trip was easier at 70km, but with rolling hills overcomed at 80W.

I'm very pleased with Cytronex which helped me tremendously over this route which I did last year with great difficulty, cramps and bonked. I could endure this year's ride better in shorter time, thanks to Cytronex. Looking forward to more rides like this.

Thanks for a great product.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Huw, Bristol, road bike conversion

I have been using the Cytronex system on my Van Nicholas titanium bike for three months and have covered a thousand miles. Last year I spent six months in plaster following a knee injury and a foot reconstruction. I struggled to get up hills and the rest of the Gruppetto were always waiting for me.

Cytronex has changed my cycling life! I now wait for them at the hilltops and indeed the faster clubmen use me as their Dernie but never catch me! A typical ride is 45 miles and I have climbed up to 860 metres, and used about 85% of the battery. Not bad for a 77 year old!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Ian, Aberdeenshire, road bike conversion

I am over the moon with the kit. I am a 73 year old man who now feels like 40! My bike climbs at a great pace and helps me keep going over the top and into the big gears. It is a great boost for someone short of wind like me. I have set the green power level to 25% power and have done 67.78 miles on the first charge with 800ft of climbing! Very, very pleased.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Judith, Farnham, road bike conversion

Huge thanks to Cytronex – so glad we found this as I didn't want to have to buy another bike - I love my current bike! Having had an issue with my right knee for over a year I'd almost stopped cycling as I didn't want to damage it by putting pressure on it when starting off/going uphill or get stuck far away from home and not be able to get myself back. Consequently, the gap between me and my husband was getting wider and wider, to the extent that I was getting left behind - more than literally.
What my conversion kit has done is to give me the confidence to get out there and not be worried that I’m going to damage my knee any further or that I might get stuck somewhere and not be able to get home again.
Just getting back out there has helped to strengthen my knee and I'm now giving my husband a run for his money by making him work harder, particularly up the hills! Cytronex has totally revolutionised our cycling so that we can both enjoy it.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Edgar, Kent, hybrid bike conversion

Just thought I would like to express how pleased I am with the kit I received yesterday. I completed 23 miles this morning with a elevation gain of 1376 ft. Quietist motor of all my 4 evokes.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Richard, Dorset, road bike conversion

I purchased the kit for my 2007 Carrera Vanquish and I am very pleased with it. I am 65 and thought electrical assistance would help me save energy on long rides and ensure that I do not run out of steam due to hills and headwinds. The kit was easy to fit and easy to use. So far I have only tested it in flattish countryside around Doncaster and it will certainly meet my requirements. I now make good progress on hills and into headwinds and my average speed has increased. As I have power on tap I no longer need  very low gears, this means I am able to use a single chainwheel on the front rather than a compact double with changer. At the moment I use a 39 or 42 tooth chainring with an 11 to 32 cassette (9 speed). The Cytronex C1 is a great product.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Carl, Penarth, hybrid bike conversion

The kit is very impressive by the way. I have all sorts of ebikes, Brose 1.3, Bosch CX...i have had misc hub motor kits going back 7 years. The C1 is so light, and perfect for road use. Great power output too. So good, that I now need a bigger chain ring.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Mary & Howard, Pontpool, 2 touring bike conversions

I must admit we were reluctant to admit that we were ready to go for motors, felt that we were giving in and that we should struggle on without them but the Cytronex is exactly what we need. We went out on them yesterday, took them for a 20 mile ride which has quite a few hills and were really pleased with them, because the assistance can be turned off when you don't need it we still felt like we'd had a good ride. We found little difference in riding our bikes without assistance and could easily pedal up the less severe hills as usual but with the boost button it was just less stress on our knees (and less puffing).

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Andrew, Colorado (USA)

You guys are terrific, and your system is the best. I admire what you have done and what you are doing. I will continue to support your project and hope that you become successful (financially) as a reward for the tremendous effort that you have put into this. Your product is superb.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Paul, Sidmouth, Trek Domane

I recently bought the C1 kit ( August) and added it to my Trek Domane. Result- Excellent. Real surge of power when I need it, otherwise, I can ride happily as before without any added assistance. There are many steep hills in this area (Sidmouth) and I am particularly impressed by the amount of power, even on the lowest or green level, enabling me to climb the hills without difficulty. I tested an Orbea Gain which is a very good e bike but the Cytronex motor is stronger and my bike still lighter than the Gain. I hope I continue to have many relaxing rides on my revitalised Trek.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Peter, Dartmoor, Quick 3 Disk

I live on the edge of both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. Both with spectacular scenery but very hilly as a result. The Cytronex C1 bike has opened up a whole new vista of cycling possibilities. The system itself adds little weight to the bike (in my case a Cannondale Quick 3 disc) and the battery is cleverly disguised as a drinks bottle on the stem. Cycling up hills is now a joy and the 3 power levels are programmable using the Cytronex App on a PC (a stroke of genius) to suit your ability and the terrain. Operation is simplicity itself with one handlebar mounted button and the power ramps up smoothly with no unexpected acceleration. I completed an 80 km ride yesterday on Bodmin Moor, tackling some significant hills. The battery held up until I was about 500m from home! The electric motor is barely audible, even on full power and has a precision freewheel built in so that there is little or no resistance to overcome when cycling with the power off. The engineering behind this system is impressive and as a retired engineer myself I can find nothing to fault it.

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: John & Rosemary, London, Bike Friday Silk's

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Peter, Marlow, electric drop bar road bike kit

A fantastic electric bike system!! This is the most natural of all the electric systems that I have tried; way better than mid-drive such as Bosch, Shimano or Yamaha. With Cytronex you get to pick your ideal bike and then electrify it; meaning that it’s under half the weight of the others. As someone who likes the natural feel and behaviour of a regular road bike but needs a bit of help up the inclines, this fully delivers! The quality of the components is excellent and it was straight forward to fit in about 40 minutes; the end result is a discrete and integral look that doesn’t spoil the lines of the bike. Support and customer service have been fantastic - highly recommended... so much so that I’m ordering a second kit for a another bike!!

Cytronex C1 Electric Conversion Kit Review: Rob, Leicester, Cannondale Hybrid Bike

With the Cytronex C1 Kit I turned my Cannondale hybrid bike into the perfect eBike - more than 10kgs lighter than my Bosch ebike, and it still rides and handles just like a non assisted bike. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the range provided by the battery, having last week completed a ride of around 56miles and 3500ft of ascent which only just over half the battery, and there is plenty of assistance provided from the motor even on the lowest setting. I am definitely a C1 convert and my Bosch bike is going up for sale!

C1 Electric Conversion Kit: David & Miriam, Hook, Bobbin bikes

Hi everyone involved with the Cytronex C1.  We purchased two bicycles from you over a month a go. Having lost our mojo for cycling over the past year we were feeling jaded from winter colds last weekend. It was about time we took the new bikes out after the awful wet weather. A sixteen mile round trip to Fleet seemed viable as we have completed it many times before even though it can be a drag with a few long slow hills and some fast traffic on the busy main road. Well wow is all I can say. They were a delight right from the outset. Intermittent low boost was  all that was required on the whole journey. We couldn't stop smiling, it was like we had the lungs and legs of people twenty years younger. I am convinced my wife is now cycling faster uphill than she does downhill. We are both more evenly matched now and are able to cycle together rather than one trailing behind in a headwind/ hill. The other great advantage is that you can get a move on when there is traffic building up behind you. Cant wait for our next trip.

C1 Electric Conversion Kit: Trevor, Guildford, road bike

A beautiful well engineered bit of kit from a very professional outfit that transformed my bike. I'm in my late 60s and this really makes cycling a pleasure again. A few quick measurements and they make the kit to fit. It went on easily in a few hours and fitted exactly. I manage 33 miles before the battery need recharging and I now climb hills easily - even the North Downs on the Olympic route. Take a good bike, electrify it with the Cytronex kit and you'll be amazed at the difference.

C1 Electric Conversion Kit: Nick, Winchester, hybrid bike

Fantastic piece of kit. Just returned from 22 mile round trip (Winchester-Alresford and back) (intermittent use of power) and still have 50% of battery capacity. Has got me back on a bike and cycling which I loved after five cardiac ops, a femoral aneurysm in my right leg and a prostate op (call me lucky!). Very well designed and thought through equipment, and fantastic customer care at Winchester shop. Couldn't recommend more highly.

C1 Electric Conversion Kit: Hazel, Christchurch, Giant Liv Avail drop bar road bike

I am 65 years of age and beginning to worry about the routes we were taking when out cycling with my husband as my knees really didn't like some of the hills we were going up. Now with my own Liv Avail which I love, fitted with the C1 I have no fear where we go (I can get at least 35 sometimes even 40 miles depending how hilly the route is) and the enjoyment of cycling is very much back. The staff at Cytronex Winchester have been extremely friendly and helpful with any queries we have had and I am now looking to have a C1 fitted to a cross bike so I can join my husband on off road routes.

C1 Electric Conversion Kit: Fanella, Romsey

We bought a Cytronex kit and bike at the same time so it came already installed. We are so very pleased with this product - as an engineer I really appreciate the thought that has gone into delivering something that not only works brilliantly, but combines elegant and ergonomic design with a very useable solution. We love that it doesn't look like an electric bike. There's something very satisfying about overtaking the Lycra clad cyclists when dressed in a business suit going up hill and no one knows you are getting an electric boost! It's made a big difference to our attitude to cycling and we now cycle to work almost every day. The only problem is that there are two of us and one Cytronex C1 so we will be getting a second one. I have to admit whilst considering a second one it seemed sensible to check out some other options as any electric solution is quite a lot of money. Last weekend I tried out some friends electric bikes on the hills in Cornwall and some were quite good but they were very expensive (three times the price in one case!) and I just didn't like the look of the bikes and the weight. The Cytronex felt like a more natural boost compared to the Bosch and the others. I've decided after all of this that I want a second Cytronex C1, my only decision now is whether to get a new bike too or put it on my old one.
